January 2025 Round Wrap 2

January 2025 Round Wrap 2
Hello and welcome to the MIG round wrap!

It doesn't seem like it was that long ago that we last shared all things MIG news, because it wasn't...a round of onedayers means you get more, sooner. And even though two games were washed out (sadly for 2s and 4s who are both in the middle of a solid season and facing opposition they would have favoured themselves to beat), we still had a massive development to share...

***Frankies are in the Grand Final!***

SAVE. THE. DATE.
Get down there in green!
We wish nothing but the best for the Frankies boys - no doubt keen to avenge last year's loss in what should have been a home final. No misunderstandings this year, the match is at the home of MIG cricket. Win, lose or otherwise, the season will keep going, as well fight for the ever elusive most desired piece of silverware - the Club Championship! Things have tightened up, and it seems every match in every grade is going to matter. We have Balmain-South Sydney this round, followed by Lindfield and finishing with fellow contenders North-West Sydney. Ooooh tense times!

Round 10

Warringah

8/163
B Wigney 3/35, R Sheahan 2/19, H Burke 1/15

Warringah lost by 109 runs.

Current place on the table: 11th

"Not sure 1s all out 53 warrants a report" - fair enough! However, we did see two baby faced MIGs make their first grade debuts in this game (NOT the reason for the loss, necessarily). Jimmy Downs and Harry Burke, who both played in a 4th grade grand final not even two years ago, now making their way into the top grade. Good to see our MIGlings coming through!

Didn't get a match report for this one, which is a shame because it was a dominant bonus point win which elevated the MIG3s into 2nd spot on the table. Hope that winning feeling continues for a long time to come for Ruben's men.

Balmain-South Sydney

6/151
J Olde 4/32, P Clift 2/22, A Durairaj 1/6

Warringah lost by 4 wickets.

Current place on the table: 1st

Didn't get a report for this one, which is understandable because no one wants to write about a narrow loss on a Sunday afternoon. But it's often in the close losses that we learn the most about ourselves as cricketers, consequently improve, get the better results we hoped for and then we can write about winning on a Sunday afternoon! Hope to get a report next round from the MIG5s.

Round 12

Warringah

9/221
H McCracken 62, W Matheson 39, A Pike 38

Gordon

8/223
W Matheson 2/34, O Fairchild 2/40, O Hansen 2/46

Warringah lost by 2 wickets.

Current place on the table: 12th

Didn't get a report for this one. I swear it's school holidays, but we're hearing homework excuses like it's class time again - the nominated author swears he's done it, but we haven't got it. Those little 1%ers can be the attitude that leads to wins or losses in close games like this one.

Round 13

Warringah

6/178
H Fear 44*, R Rulli 37, F Schneidereit 27

Pennant Hills Panthers

120
L Clarke 3/17, F Schneidereit 2/18, C Mulcay 1/3

Warringah won by 58 runs.

Current place on the table: 7th

Today was a must win game to stay in touch with the top 6! Game plan was simple! Win the toss, bat first and post a big total!! That we did! Why?
Because we batted with intent and our running between the wickets was superb! Rocco Rulli (37) and Jimmy Pike (18) got us off to a flyer with a 58 run opening partnership! From there it was just great partnership batting keeping the run rate above 4 posting a competitive 178.

The defence..
Cooper Vickery (1/22) and Lucas Clarke ripped through the top 4 (3/17) early doors to get stuck into their middle order.. Apparently there was a screaming slips catch in the slips from the skipper too! Miracles do happen!
Freddie (2/18) and Nixon (1/15) bowled well in tandem to keep the wickets falling and suddenly the bonus point was on! We needed to roll Pennant Hills for 106 to get the BP but wasn’t to be finally rolling them for 120. Connor (1/3) and Harrison (1/10) cleaned up the tail to secure the win and place us 1 point outside the top 6!
Up the Mighty Chaps!

Semi Final

Warringah

7/221
O Lucius 61, J Colyer 59*, J Terry 35

Burwood

6/219
R Sheahan 2/21, H Burke 2/49, S Murata-Davison 1/23

Warringah won by 3 wickets.

Current place on the table: 1st

Warringah qualify for the Grand Final!
Match to be played against Lane Cove at Weldon Oval, Sunday 2 February.

Semi final time as the U24 Frank Gray side took on Burwood. Losing the toss and bowling first which like one of the best decks of the season. The green men started well thanks to wicket a piece to Regan and Burkey having Burwood 3/37 after 10 It was time to try and squeeze through the middle period. A few partnerships through the middle from Burwood and the wicket not offering much for our seam or spinners. Ultimately, Regan Sheahan (2 fa 28) and Harry Burke (2 fa 49) were the standout bowlers for Warringah from their 10 overs. With Burwood fighting to 219/6 after 50
Losing a wicket early on. Jay found his rhythm getting us off to a reasonable start with 35. With a solid 4th wicket partnership between Regan and Oscar. Regan then fell for 31. Going steadily was the man of the hour Oscar Lucius working the gaps and being the rock of the innings with 61. Couple run outs saw a few nerves settle in. But nothing Jarod Colyer couldn’t handle. With one of the best knocks in recent years at Warringah guiding the boys home with an unbeaten 59 off 60 and Sentarou hitting the winnings runs! chasing 219 7 down with 5 balls to spare. A historic win that books a GF for the Frank Gray boys.

I know we already put this graphic in, but we're just excited about the possibility of bringing Frankie home!

No match: next match vs Mounties at Greenway Park 1 (Sun 2 February).

Current place on the table: 2nd

Round 6

Warringah

6/198
R Howard 32*, D Jeffs 31* , P Dolby 31*

Sri Lankan Lions

8/203
C O'Brien 2/23, D Jeffs 2/24, G Allsop 1/32

Warringah lost by 5 runs.

Current place on the table: 1st

It was a top of the table clash . Warringah won the toss and batted on a Grahams Reserve pitch that was doing a bit early but would flatten out quickly . Some good line and length bowling by the visitors put pressure on our top order to create run scoring opportunities. Fordy (5) fell  to an off cutter jagging off a length on a slightly damp pitch to trap him in front . Waddo (15) was playing positively till nicking off to an ex Warringah teammate Jason Jewiss .
Captain Neil was looking good before getting a little tickle off their fast offspinner which saw him back in the sheds much earlier than usual . It would be fair to say we were feeling the pressure and were a bit behind . Enter David Jeffs and Paul Dolby who both retired by over 24 with us on 94 showing a mixture of grit and good shot-making in pursuit of a good score . Chris Stolk (14) and Rick Howard (32no) boosted the scoring rate as the pitch got better and the ball got older . Chris O’brien (15) was on fire but got a roughie LB decision which cost us dearly. Giles Park 20 (no ) Rob Melchiore (8) and Greg Allsopp (8 no) did a great job of getting as many runs as possible.
The Sri Lankans have won the last 7 comps I believe. They are formidable opponents and we have had a tie and a win against them in the last few  of years . We came second in the comp to them 4 years ago . They are formidable and our win last year broke a four year winning streak of theirs.
Our bowling started well with the accuracy of Waddo and Greg keeping them to 2/38 off 10 . We have been able to shut teams down this year, consistently. However today we conceded 104 runs in 13 overs . By and large they batted beautifully while riding their luck.  As a keeper I felt their captain was plumb off Giles for 2 and went on to retire very quickly   .All that is meaning is we were very close to winning this match.
All the bowlers and fieldsmen did their best . We had them 7/157 at 31 overs . They squeaked home at 8/203 with Marlon batting well for 54 not out and their keeper Turner getting a well made 37(no). They are formidable. The best of our bowlers by figures were Jeffs 2/22 off 8 and Obrien 2/22 off 6 . Allsop and Waddo did great but some flat track bullying occurred for those 13 overs . Hats off to their batsmen . We won most sessions . It was a great game and they won with an over to spare . Close but no cigar lads.

Round 7

Warringah

2/124
R Trewartha 33*, P Dolby 31*, C Stolk 19*

Roseville

123
G Park 2/7, P Lacy 2/21, S Lyon 2/21

Warringah won by 8 wickets.

Warringah Classics extended their impressive form with a commanding 8-wicket victory over Roseville, showcasing their all-round dominance with both ball and bat.
After electing to bowl, Warringah’s opening pair, Greg Allsop (2-21 off 8) and debutant Paul Lacy, made an immediate impact. Allsop struck early, breaking through with the score on 11, and Lacy followed up with two quick wickets, including a sharp catch from keeper Howard, reducing Roseville to a precarious 4-19.
Roseville’s captain, Mulvany, provided resistance with a calm and calculated innings, guiding his team to 4-55. However, his efforts were cut short just before drinks when Giles Park (2-7 off 6) produced a brilliant caught-and-bowled to dismiss the skipper. Rob Melchiore (1-18 off 7) piled on the pressure with a wicket maiden, leaving Roseville at 6-55.
The Warringah attack remained relentless, with Simon Lyon (2-18) and Chris O’Brien (1-24) tightening the screws. O’Brien’s superb caught-and-bowled sent the dangerous Zatz back to the pavilion, although Roseville’s Rozenkrowitz (31 not out) added crucial late runs. The visitors were eventually bowled out for 123.
With rain threatening, Warringah’s openers Read and Trewartha wasted no time, putting on a brisk 38 in just six overs. Trewartha continued his stellar season, smashing boundaries in an unbeaten 33 before retiring. Although Barnett fell for a quickfire 9 with the score at 52, Dolby and Stolk ensured there were no further hiccups.
Dolby punished anything short, while Stolk played a composed knock, rotating the strike effortlessly. After Dolby retired following a series of powerful blows, Lacy joined Stolk, and the duo steered Warringah home with 17 overs to spare.
Summary:
A clinical bowling display and a steady batting performance ensured Warringah secured their sixth win in seven matches, further cementing their dominance this season.
