Round 8

H Ferguson 84*, W Davidson 58, W Akhurst 34
Roseville
9/235
J Stearman 4/43, R Sheahan 3/32, P Day 1/43
Warringah won by 4 wickets.
The last regular round game of 2024, sees the MIG taking on Roseville. Hamish lost another toss (8 from 8), being sent in on what looked like a lovely batting track. The green men started well thanks to a couple of early poles to Patty Day.. It was time to put the foot on the throat. A few partnerships through the middle and the wicket not offering much for our seam bowlers, we threw the white ball to our spinners. Ultimately, Regan Sheahan (3 fa 32) and Jack Stearman (4 fa 43) were the standout bowlers for Warringah from their 10 overs, with Roseville bowled out for 235. The boys fought hard in the field, multiple catches and a crucial stumping from Oscar Lucius kept the Roses in check.
Akhurst (34) and Will Davidson (58), laid a solid foundation with a 92-run stand. When the openers fell, captain Hamish Ferguson took charge, anchoring the innings with a superb unbeaten 84 runs off 99 balls. Although wickets fell at regular intervals, including a mini-collapse with three quick dismissals, the lower order showed plenty of grit and determination. Aidan Bennett (27*) provided a late surge, hitting at a strike rate of over 200, ensuring Warringah crossed the line with four wickets to spare.
A great win that keeps the season alive for our 1st Grade side... Onwards and Upwards for 2025!

L Molyneux 6/42, J Gore 1/1, R Outred 1/26
Warringah won by 6 wickets.
Warringah’s 2nd grade side formed a gallery on the green at the 7th hole at Roseville golf course in the warm up. After some lovely chips on a difficult pin by some Saturday tragics the boys were inspired for the upcoming WCC Christmas Party but also to bowl first after S Cook won the toss.
The deck was soft and the club’s Christmas party was around the corner. After a start where we failed to hit a consistent line with the new ball, a worthy celebration back at Weldon was going to have to be worked hard for. Outred and Morgan scalped a wicket each at the end of their spells bringing Cook and Molyneux into the attack. Mol’s first over was the definition of rocks and diamonds. After pitching 3 balls on off stump which spun down leg, he quickly realised the ball was quite literally turning at right angles. He adjusted his line to the wide line outside off stump, and next thing you know he was on a hat-trick after bowling 2 guys through the gate. Cook toiled away at the other end picking up an LBW while Molyneux took 6/42 at the other end. A late surge from the tail had Roseville post 161.
Kasmar and Downs kicked off the chase, and after a decent start they both lost their wickets in a short period. Richardson (25) and Colyer (47) were the new ones at the crease and this would be the partnership that took the game away from Roseville. As Richo began to accelerate the game he unfortunately got out rib before wicket (yes it hit him in the rib) and Jarod also unlucky with his LBW to miss out on back to back 50’s. Johnson then decided he wanted the Christmas party to start early by putting 2 shots onto the golf course to get us the win. WCC 2nd grade now sit 1st on the table going into the new year.
Round 9

Auburn
148
J Gore 3/18, L Molyneux 3/24, R Outred 2/58
Warringah won by 145 runs.
After a rejuvenating break the boys rocked up to weldon oval. With rain forecasted and a green wicket the plan was to bowl. With the loss of the toss the mighty mig were sent in to bat. Jimmy downs and Noah Kasmar strolled to the crease. The ball was doing a bit early with some plays and misses from the pair. However Jimmy lent on a half volley and it raced for 4, the tension was lifted. From there the pair batted in unison awaiting length or width and pounced perfectly. Boundaries flowed and Auburn were silenced. Excellent running between the wickets allowed the score to turn over consistently and both were scoring at roughly a run a ball. Jimmy and Noah both excellent of the front and back foot, it was a joy to watch and the cheers grew in noise as the two encroached on 50s. With Jimmy brining up his fifty, 100 run partnership and Noah brining up his fifty shortly after it was a perfect start for the lads. The middle overs were dominated by the pair both showing power and touch constantly a superb display of batting. At 0-188 things were going perfectly until an unfortunate mix up ending Noah’s brilliant knock on 73. However Jimmy didn’t hold back he continued his momentum hitting big and taking on the auburn attack. Hitting a free hit to the boundary Jimmy was ever so close to his maiden Warringah century. He crossed the mark and the boys erupted with joy and cheer as Jimmy deservingly raised the bat to the crowd. Jimmy didn’t stop there upping the anti and reaching an incredible 124 of 122 balls, WHAT A KNOCK. At 4-233 there couldn’t have been a better platform. The boys continued to go at 6 and over, cookie hitting some powerful shots while chick rotated the strike, ending up on 7-293 of the 50 overs. Congratulations to Noah and Jimmy for an all time partnership.
With the rain around the boys we’re adamant to get through 15 overs to constitute a game. With Roy swinging and seaming them accurately on a length as per usual and molyneux landing on a dime and turning them wickets fell early. 2 for molyneux in his first 2 overs and 1 for Roy in his second the boys were off to a flying start. From there Roy took his second having Auburn 4/43 of 7 and molyneux his third shortly after. From there auburn middle order occupied the crease for a while however accurate bowling from the whole lineup choked up the runs. Shane cook and Liam getting the breakthroughs was a relief for the 2s boys until another partnership was formed up to the 37th over with auburn 7-132. Joe came into the attack and took 2 in an over followed by a third in his following over finishing of the innings and securing a bonus point win for the lads.

Warringah lost by 38 runs.
The 3rd Grade MIGs came up against Roseville in round 8 of the season, coming off a great all round performance win against Strathfield the previous week. A lineup initially made up of the same 11 players from the previous week quickly needed some changing as the news came that Beau Kelley was at work and completely unaware of his selection in the team. Skipper Ruben (still on the phone trying to find an eleventh player), made his way to the toss, which fell Roseville’s way as they chose to bat first on a green Frank Gray deck.
Harry Burke and Sam Roche opened up the game with the ball as early movement through the air seemed to be too much for the Roseville openers who struggled to make the runs flow. The arrival of eleventh player Ian Thompson helped pin down the runs with another infield gap closed up with some sharp fielding. The first bowling change of the day saw Singhy launch his first 3 deliveries down leg side for wides, before his first legal delivery took out the openers leg stump for 6(26) in the 12th over. A sharp catch from Harry Burke at backward point saw Singhy dismiss the other opener for 30(43) to start his second over leaving Roseville 2-45 off 14. A play and miss masterclass then ensued as no matter the line and length off the delivery bowled, the Roseville number four insisted on attempting a booming on drive, making Al Dowthwaite’s scoring job easy with a lot of dots in succession. Charlie Wilson from the other end bowled tight overs including the dismissal of the number 3 from a sharp second slip catch from the skipper. Rosevilles young number 5 was sent back without scoring giving Singhy his third and Roseville slowly moving at 4-50 after 18. Runs dried up with cheers around the ground as Roseville scored their first runs for about 6 overs as they continued to crawl until the drinks break, before Matt Kuchel struck twice in 4 balls to dismiss both set bats for 32(56) and 17(76). A lifting run rate from Mitch Norton’s look alike saw the total creep up before Charlie Wilson struck with a solid catch from Dusty behind the stumps. A runout from the Lachy Coy at mid off, and Singhy picking up another in the last over saw Roseville finish 9 down, with 162 runs on the board.
After digging into some lunch, Ruben and Zach OSullivan walked out to the crease to open up for the MIGs to chase what appeared to be a very below par score. After Zach O was dismissed early, Ruben played his shots before he eventually went for 30(26), as we sat at 2-44 after 8. Lachy Coy joined Singhy in the middle, as they ticked the runs over to 75, at which point the later of the two was bowled in the 22nd over. Dusty was dismissed shortly after at mid off for 4, followed by Zach D for 1, who was runout going for a single after his bat got stuck in the ground while attempting to slide it. Ian Thompson then missed a ball by a foot and was given out caught behind leaving the green men in a hole at 6-90 in the 28th. After consistent strike rotation and good running between the wickets, Lachy Coy’s mature knock came to an end on 34(67) after picking out deep mid wicket, followed by Harry Burke who wrestled momentum back, digging in and freeing the arms when required, before finding the same fate as Lachy on 20(36). Charlie Wilson and Matt Kuchel also fell quickly to finish a middle and lower order batting collapse as the MIG 3s finished all out for just 124, falling short by 38 runs of Roseville’s score, resulting in the first 3rd grade loss of the season. After the Christmas break, the lads will look to bounce back against lower table Auburn outfit, at Dave Tribolet Oval early next year.

Roseville on the last round before Christmas and the partlooming – no way we want to drop this one to the Roses. However, we were goingto have to overcome a few challenges to make it happen. We ended up needing to chase229 to win, but the Roses were once 0-80 and 2-179 off 33. It was looking to bea long day. Our opening bowlers struggled to find their lines which cost usruns on a small ground and made it tough for our follow up bowlers. We startedto slow the scoring rate with some control from Rhino and Harv, until Rhino dislocatedhis finger diving to save a boundary (see the image below!). Hats off to FreddieSchneidereit for answering the call for a sub fielder within 20 minutes. But wewere down to 10 men on a small ground. So we brought back our opener Carlo, whogot through 1.3 overs before a side-strain ruled him out of the attack. Thewheels were falling off! Then two wickets, one to Harvey and one to Rowseyhelped pull it back. They climbed again to 2-170 off 33, and we knew that paceoff was the way forward. So TK served up the biggest pie you'll ever see, onlyfor the batsman to be caught on the boundary by Cooper. 3-down. Let’s bringback our other opening bowler and hope for no injuries. Finally! Some successfor the quicks - Cooper's second spell was fizzing! He swung the ball in nicelyand claimed 3 in that spell. Norto backed him up and bowled well and took twofor himself. A few other wickets were shared (Rowsey and Matho), and we bowledthem out in the last over for 228. So, the MIGs with two broken down bowlers, 10men for 20 minutes and some killer strategies had claimed 8-58 to pullourselves back into it. On a small ground with fast outfield (just on one sidethrough weirdly enough), we knew we could chase it if we applied ourselves withthe bat!
Our batting innings started like our bowling innings – a fewfalse starts and setbacks. We were 2-52 off 12 with Norto getting out basicallyhacking cause he wanted to "put pressure on 'em". Rohit got out for23 to a sharp catch at short point. Shakey. TK and Toohey were in, resurrectingthe innings and trying to move it along. However, TK got out swinging afterrunning a quick one which pulled his groin (he’ll tell you, that was predictablereally). Will and Ollie picked it up after drinks, but Ollie was given outcaught behind (perhaps some conjecture about whether he hit it or the ground). Wewere 4-102 off 22, the run rate was good but wickets were hurting us. YoungHarv to the crease and he looked composed, controlled and organised until he gotout against the run of play for 20. Toohey kept on keeping on and was joined byCarlo who was giving the instructions to “give it a whack” given hisside-strain was going to hamper his shot-range. Or so we thought. Carlo whackeda quick-fire 36 (which ended up being unbeaten), along with the innings of theday (of the round if you ask the skip), Will Toohey 82*. It was chanceless. Onestreaky shot early, otherwise he defended when he needed to, ticked it over whenit suited him and attacked the legside boundary when it was deserved. Wellbatted Will and well played MIGs! Great win going into the break.

A wild and wet few days leading into the weekend meant a lotof matches in the West were called off. In fact, in 4th grade justtwo matches got on – with similar stories in other grades. This meant our matchwould be crucial in helping us pick up crucial points for the club champs, butalso to help build momentum for the might MIG4s. Enter the 4th gradepace attack!
Tom “Texas” Walker, Robbie “RBT” Tipton and Will “BustlingBill” Graham (on 4th grade debut) took Auburn’s top order apart. Asolid 0-17 start, the Eagles were reduced to 4-35 on the back of controlled anddisciplined bowling – but if we’re being brutally honest, the batsman were abit scared of the pace and movement our boys were getting. We could go into theswing and seam they were getting, but what kept us talking was Bustling Bill’speculiar one-handed catch at square leg. Let’s be clear, it wasn’t a diving, stretching, horizontal one-handed reflex grab. It was a regulation catch from aflick off the legs, and Will saw fit to establish his attitude and dominance byopting to catch it without use of his left hand. Kid has been watching too muchshowmanship from Konstas or something. A 5th wicket partnership ofnearly 60 threatened to make it a long day for the MIG4s, but teamwork and controlledbowling from Norto with his meds, and Zaccy-D with his offies broke through themiddle-lower order, before Tom “the bully” Walker and Bustling Billy came backto intimidate the tail into submission of their wickets. 123 the target.
Our batting innings was all about ascendancy – get on topand stay on top to chase the 123 (with a bonus point in the back of our minds).Norto and Rohit started brightly before Norto chipped one, bringing in Ky “the comebackkid” Broome out to the middle. Mistake! Ky smashed his way to a quickfire 37before getting out against the run of play. Zac was unselfishly run out (a bitof a mix up) trying to move the score along, Will Toohey smashed a fewboundaries and got out with just a few more runs needed. But Rohit controlledthe innings with a mature 47* to give the MIGs a bonus point and reclaim topspot on the table. Well done boys!

Warringah won by 27 runs.
It was a beautiful sunny Sunday overshadowing the week of rain. Warringah won the toss and elected to bat. The pitch was solid and looked in for a good game between bat and ball. Pennant Hills fielded much of their 40 overs with a 7-2 field on the offside, where it seems they didn’t miss the mark all day. Highlights of the batting innings with Ollie Higgins who scored 43 from 83 balls with some expansive Strokeplay mixed technical application against a consistent bowling attack. Lots of handy lower order runs were added to the tally totalling to 128. Pennant hills came out strong till drinks at 2-74. The wicket in my opinion was well suited to spinners where our highest wicket taker James Olde took 4 with some ragging leggies and excellent fielding by the whole team as it is thought that we didn’t drop a catch, followed by the skippa PC with 2, and Ashwin who had an economy of .75. Bowling was tight from everyone, and the chat was right up there taking the win home from what seemed like an unwinnable position.

Another important game for us today taking on Strathfield in a must win to maintain our position In the top 8. Today we welcomed some new faces Rocco Rulli and some debutants including Archie Buckley & Nate Cole. We lost the toss and were sent into bowl first on a road! Cooper Vickery and Rocco Rulli opened us up brilliantly with Coops snagging an early one.
From there Strathfield dug In for a while until Nixon Kolodzinski clean bowled their other opener.. It wasn’t the free flowing wickets like usual for us but the boys dug in deep & eventually Harrison Fear snagged a nice 2fa, with great support from Connor Mulchay (1/13) and Fin Sorohan with some great partnership bowling.. The excitement came late in the innings with Rocco snaring a Hattrick over two overs with 2 catches in the deep from the ever-safe hands of Cooper Vickery and a clean bowled!! What a way to finish! In the end managing to bowl Strathfield out for 150… The run chase was 4 an over.
James Pike & Nate Cole opened us up with James getting unlucky with an LBW early for 5. Rocco (62n.o) and Nate (74n.o) showed true determination to score runs and score quickly with some superb shots into the gaps and toying with the field at times particularly with the left/right combination. It was a delight to watch a very level headed run chase to secure the victory with a 139 run partnership winning in the end by 9 wickets!
A great end to the year for the Chaps back to our winning ways!

Warringah lost by 15 runs.
After a week of rain, we were happy to arrive at Frank Gray Oval to see the sun shining and all the boys keen to play their first game of 2025 against Strathfield Gold. We won the toss and chose to bowl first. Will Cunningham (3/32) and Rocco Rulli (2/23) opened the bowling and managed to fight back after their attacking opening batters hit us for a few boundaries. We went into the drinks break with Strathfield 3/80, we knew that we needed to start strong with some wickets to limit the Strathfield batters. Nixon Kolodzinski took the openers wicket in the first over after the break, and Harrison Fear took another wicket in the following over. After some small partnerships from the Strathfield batsman, we bowled them out for 160 with Nixon and Harrison both taking 2 wickets each.
We knew this chase was well within our ability, however we were hoping for a strong start from James Pike and Rocco Rulli. James Pike had another solid innings before being dismissed for 33. We went into the drink break at 4/79. We were right on the run rate, however, we had lost a few more wickets than we would have liked. William Cunningham played well for his 27, however, Warringah continued to lose consistent wickets and were unfortunately bowled out for 145, losing by 15 runs. Unfortunately, it wasn't meant to be for Warringah, but everyone can take good learning opportunities into next week.
Round 5

J Terry 4/35, J Stearman 3/0, R Sheahan 2/9
Warringah won by 101 runs.
With the boys returning from a well deserved holiday, we were all keen to get back into the swing of things prior to christmas. Starting the day off well Moll won the toss and elected to bat, sending JT and Davo out to the middle. The two started off positively nailing a few boundaries before the first wicket falling. Jay continued with Jack to pile on the runs until Jay was caught off guard by a wild call which he later received an apology from the umpire. The Epping bowlers proved effective, bowling great areas and to their fields making it difficult to score. Despite this Jack and Reagan worked through this to amount to 140 odd at the second drinks break. Both sadly departed after an entertaining 30 odd each. With the team losing batters as they were just finding their rhythm, Barney entered the field. The team seeing the situation and the skip ordering to push the run rate up, barney put the foot down and started hitting out. Placing the pressure back on the epping bowlers. Few cheap wickets fell around him before reaching the innings break where Barney had brought the score to 210 and giving himself a beautiful 53*.
The frankies thrown into bowl started off well with Jay and bourkey straight into the attack. This combo of pace and spin proved effective as the first wicket fell in the fourth over with Jay taking the first. Bourkey claimed the following after persisting with tight line and length. Jay again joined the party claiming his second in the following over. Just as the epping batsmen started to settle into their innings JT ripped through two more within four balls placing the pressure back onto the opposition leaving them at 5-62 at drinks. Reagan added to the scorecard grabbing another two quick wickets after drinks leaving the opposition 7-68. The fielding efforts by everyone in the team was sublime giving little to no extra runs. The only epping top order batsman became a tricky obstacle to overcome as he played safely while finding small opportunities to score. His efforts were undone when Jack joined the attack taking three poles to bring a swift conclusion to the game while conceding no runs.
Round 7

G Allsop 25, D Storey 22*, B Lewis 14
Schofields
109
D Storey 4/17, G Allsop 2/17, J Egerton 1/18
Warringah won by 1 wicket.
The old MIGs arrived at Grahams ready to take on Schofields grateful to have a home away game due to a last minute ground shuffle. The deck inspection showed a grassy yet firm surface and with rumours circulating that left arm ortho’s took 10 poles in the Saturday fixture, BJ happily lost the toss and we put our left armers to work immediately with Beej and Buckets opening up.
Buckets, fresh from instructing a pump class next door, snagged the first 2 wickets with his line and length really looking good. His calves and booty also looking good thanks to Bodypump #128.
The Schofields batsmen played their shots however lost their 3rd wicket thanks to a perfectly cooked BBQ, with Little Brad firing in a rocket keepers arm throw to Rick who whipped the bails off for a cheeky runout. Thoughts and prayers to LB’s rotator cuff. Fresh from his 9 hour drive the day before, Edgo came on and bowled his usual miserly lines, tying down the Schofields hacksmen and picking up the big wicket of their skipper Dean Storey then entered the attack and completely bamboozled the Schoey batsmen with his left arm door knobs, picking up 4/17 off his 8 overs. With the score around 7/80 odd, discussions were had re the optimal total to chase to maximise bonus points. Skipper BJ pointed out that “around 110 is good so we can chase it down in 20 overs for bonus points”. More on that to follow . The boys ended up rolling Schoey for 109 with poles shared and good catching from the lads. Slick Rick was tidy AF with the gloves with a sharp stumping and a snare up to the stumps.
The Schoey lads had a bunch of crust pizzas and GB waiting for the MIGs as we walked off the field. Giving us a home game and pizza? What legends! (More to follow). With bonus points looming big Al started the MIGs chase off in style pounding 3 boundaries in the first over. Here we go..Al was soon caught and Dolbs joined Waity and the lads cruised before Dolbs was cleaned up. 2/23, no stress. Waity fell soon after with a leading edge and promptly dispatched his helmet and gloves to all parts of the change room, if only he punished the Kooka like the helmet… 3/24 still on top. The left arm Schoey opening bowler was starting to find his straps at this point with Deano misjudging a late inswinger and was fired LBW. 4/31.. still on track for BP but getting squeaky?
Waddo looked good before smoking a cover drive and falling victim to a catch more suited to a 3rd grade fixture than masters. 5/33. Confirmed squeaky! Rick planted a nice stride down the wicket and was fired LBW falling victim to another Woody inswinger and he received a nicely timed send off…… from the umpire!!!
As Rick walked off within earshot the umpy proudly professed “that was absolutely plumb, nuff said” As it turns out the Schoey players weren’t the only ones with a beef having to drive away from home for the fixture, and the umps trigger finger was starting to get itchy! 6/37, bonus point mish off, operation salvage!
Buckets joined Rocket* at the crease and the pair started a rearguard action posting 22 valuable runs before Rocket* played around a straight one and was bowled. 7/59. Possible gas truck?
*LB’s new nickname under review from nickname committee
BJ joined Buckets and the boys squeaked and gassed their way closer to the total. At this point Dean Harris decided to pop the bottle shop to pick up a slab of Schooeys for the Schoey boys as a thankyou for being good blokes and agreeing to make the drive to the beaches on their home game…BJ was soon bowled making it 8/76. Tense AF! Cometh the hour, cometh the mankad….
Dean Storey strode to the crease fresh of his 4 fa and ready to deliver some heroics with the bat. In what seemed like a premeditated act, the Schoey bowler executed one of the most poxy, heinous acts seen on a masters cricket field performing a mankad on non-striker Deano with the umps itchy trigger finger being raised instantly. The screeching tires of Dean Harris’s car were heard as he sped back to the bottle shop to return the beers. Commotion on the field with square leg ump Edgo pleading a case for the defence.
Would Deano be adjudged out mankad for a diamond? Common sense prevailed and the Schoey skipper over turned the decision and allowed Deano to play on. Dean Harris chucked a handbrakey on Kenneth road and the beers were once again returned to Grahams. Play resumed with Buckets and Deano adding 23 for the 9th wicket as the MIGs crept closer to the total
At this point a crowd of Cliffy’s family arrived at the ground to cheer the boys home and with Cliffy waiting in the wings with the pads on at number 11, were the spectators about to witness some last wicket heroics from the great man? Deano then fired up the BBQ leaving Buckets stranded, run out for a hard earnt 25 runs. Rumour has it if Buckets opted out of the last round of squats in pump earlier that morning he may have made the run…9/99. 11 runs to win and puckering bums all round. Cliffy strode to the crease with it all on the line. Would Cliffy hit the winning runs while being surrounded by family in a career defining feat of skill and determination? Or would he crumble under the pressure and disappoint his family? Either option would be quite entertaining
With a calm composure, Cliffy nudged them around like a seasoned campaigner of some 80 odd years and Deano managed to bring up the winning runs to secure a tight win for the old MIGs. The winning beers tasted sweet (although a little shaken up) and the Schoey boys turned out to be good blokes after all leaving the retracted mankad on the field (still PWC’s tho ). Dean Storey sweeping the honours with a 4 fa, 22 red, a bbq and a near diamond mankad incident Shout out to Buckets for his crucial knock, holding things together through the middle. And special mention Dean Harris who is off to the mechanic for a new clutch and brake pads. Up the MIGs!!!

C O'Brien 2/23, D Jeffs 2/24, G Allsop 1/32
Warringah lost by 2 wickets.
Didn't get a report for this one, which is understandable in the pre-Christmas rush - lots of Dads out sourcing meat, seafood and beers, replacing gas bottles for BBQs and whatever else their significant others insist on for Christmas.
