Welcome back MIG fans!
A bit of reading ensues, but not as match as the previous rounds. Still plenty of cricket and some super positive wins we can reflect on, but some missed opportunities and some frustrations in places as well - thanks largely to some ill-timed weather.
To summarise the action, we had grades 1-4 playing against Georges River, two matches from 5th Grade (Pennant Hills and Burwood), a match against Pennant Hills from the Chappelow Cup side, a Metro Cup result against Penrith (and a rained out one against Campbelltown-Camden), Classics played the 'Cricketers Club of NSW' and Masters had the round off. Our Frankies side also played, this their third match, and against Lindfield the time - could they go 3 from 3?
Before we get into the wraps from each grade, we need to promote one of the best days of the Warringah calendar year and a new event coming which we hope our local junior park sides will get right behind:

Round 6
Warringah
189
R Sheahan 56, C McKay 34, O Lucius 30*
Georges River
222
J Gore 3/26, B Wigney 3/48, M Munro 2/33
Warringah lost by 33 runs.
Turning up to a sunny day at Weldon, Warringah lost the toss and were sent to bowl on very a flat wicket. Cal (2-68) and Wigs (3-48) opened the bowling got us off to a great starts and putting Georges River under pressure. Joe (3-26) and Munro (2-33) took some important middle order wickets to have them 6-60 looking like they’d struggle to reach triple figures. The wicket began to flatten as the day continued and the GR lower order dug in with some big partnerships to drag their total up to 222 all out. This left warringah to face out 9 overs in the day, finishing up 1-35 with Munro and Joe seeing it out.
The next week was a stark contrast to the previous, turning up to pools of water on the covers and a chance of a delayed start. However, a large effort on the super soppers meant play was to start on time. Losing a wicket second ball of the day set the tone for the match, we lost wickets consistently and struggled to form partnerships. A classy innings from Regan (56) was the only notable score from the top order. We slumped to 8-129 when Cal (34) came to the crease with Oscar (30*) to provide some hope with a 51 run partnership for the 9th wicket. However was not to be and Warringah were dismissed for 189.
Round 6
Warringah
171
J Terry 66, J Colyer 27, J Chick 24
Georges River
1/24
S Cook 1/12
Match drawn - day 2 washed out.
Match report didn't come. We're sure it would have read how the weather has robbed 2s of an important win. Maybe we'll get one after the Strathfield game next round.
Round 6
Warringah
115
M Singh 34, T Moffat 24, S Murata-Davison 16
Georges River
115 & 9/93
C Wilson 3/20, R Donato 3/24, T Walker 2/7 &
T Walker 3/22, S Murata-Davison 2/8, R Donato 2/28
Match tied.
Warringah won the toss and elected to bowl on a pitch that offered some early assistance for the bowlers. Early poles from Tom walker and Charlie Wilson ensured a positive start for Warringah. Ruben then tied down an end, sending down some absolute hand grenades which the Georges river batters could not answer, finishing with 3 wickets off 18 overs. After a valiant effort from the visitors, they finished with 115 all out.To finish off the days play, Warringah batted for 14 overs. Early wickets of Ruben and Cooper made it a rocky start to the innings. In came Michael Singh and Sen Murata Davidson who steadied the ship. Some agressive batting from the pair piled on the runs. Play was halted as Sen launched a massive six into the trees. Warringah finished the day on top at 2 for 52. As the boys pulled the covers off for day 2 they saw a green tinge of grass on the pitch. The constant drizzle of rain throughout the day made it a tricky pitch to bat on. Warringah collapsed quickly making this first innings chase very tight. Will toohey hit the runs to tie the match, before snicking off as Warringah get bowled out for 115, ending in a first innings tie.
Warringah then go out to field again, hoping to roll the visitors for not many. It was a gritty effort from Georges river as they battled to enforce a draw. This made for riveting cricket. Some good bowling from Tom Walker earnt him 3 wickets, Whilst sen chipped in with 2 great wickets and 1 from Charlie Wilson to get the boys close. However, as the ball got wetter and wetter and the rain continued to fall, the task got more challenging. An intriguing final over from Lachie Coy bought some late chances however the innings finished at 9 for 80. The result was a draw and the points were split.
Round 6
Warringah
0/62
R Jayaram 31*, M Norton 31*
Georges River
114
J Conners 3/29, R Tipton 2/4, B Rowse 2/14
No result - day 2 washed out.
This one hurts a bit. The MIG4s did everything right and we were robbed by the weather of what would have been a fitting win. The match was one of only two games in the grade that didn't get a result, and we later learned that maybe not all was what it seemed when day 2 was called off.
Day 1 saw Warringah lose the toss (and Kev break tradition by accidentally letting slip the toss result, sharply picked up on by Robbie). Speaking of sharp, boy Robbie was just that. The opposition couldn't get him away, and he finished with astonishing figures of 14-12-4-2 - that's 4 runs in 14 overs! Robbie grabbed us an early two wickets, along with the young Conners before jetsetting overseas, and GR were 3-23. They then dug in before some stunning catches saw the wicket procession continue - Tipton, Osborne, Dowthwaite, Conners and Norton all taking great catches to peg GR back anytime they started to make a fist of their innings. Some late stump rattling from Osbourne and Conners and GR were bowled out for 115. Wickets shared in a good team effort. Norto and Rohit then set about making sure we were in the best possible position for a MIG assault on day 2, and they calmly (and seemingly effortlessly) ticked along to 0/62 at stumps, each bat an equal share in the total.
Then the rain hit during the week. And 'something' happened. Was it forgetfulness, was it circumstances or was it something more but the covers weren't on our ground (but they were on the adjacent fields) and we were denied the opportunity to chase the final 54 runs - which we have no doubt Rohit and Norto would have knocked off without issue. Oh well, we'll just have to get the job done again next round against Strathfield.
Round 9
Warringah
120
E Hutt 24, S Higgins 21, C Dickson 18
Pennant Hills
5/122
C Dickson 2/9, I Thompson 2/9, O Higgins 1/13
Warringah lost by 5 wickets.
‘MIG 5’s played hard last Sunday at Weldon but unfortunately had a tough loss to pennant hills. We batted first on what looked a very good batting wicket but the wickets fell consistently from the start. With a decent partnership between stu and cooper, and some end of innings heroics from Lucas Gleeson, we managed to set 120, well below par but keeping the possibility of a win alive. The win viz quickly turned in our favour after getting pennant hills 3-7 after a few overs with a near hattrick for cooper Dickson and a wicket for Ollie Higgins. But after that, there number 4 and 5 put on a good partnership that slowly took the game away from us. There was a short moment of hope for the mig when Ian Thompson took 2 in a row in the final overs but they managed to trudge over the line with about 5 overs to spare. All in all, tough loss for the boys but still a great afternoon of cricket at Weldon
Round 10
Warringah
8/105
S Thompson 30, B Moran 23*, M Moran 18
Burwood
104
M Moran 3/16, P Clift 3/28, C Dickson 2/12
Warringah won by 2 wickets.
We didn't get a report for this match, but here's the social media summary about it:
"We’re taking the @manlyclubongilbert TOTW quite literally this week… our 5th grade side is our TOTW!They had a great team performance, with youngsters showing maturity beyond their years in what was a tricky run chase in tough conditions. After bowling Burwood out for 104, they chased it 8 down with a handy partnership at the death from the Moran boys to get us over the line."
Round 7
Warringah
196
O Sinclair 31, A Durairaj 27, S Beaman 24
Penrith
195
H McCracken 3/30, S Beaman 2/24, D Baniya 1/7
Warringah won by 1 run.
We didn't get a report for this one, which is a shame - it was a 1 run win! Definitely would have been worth reading about, especially given the week before these boys lost by 1 wicket!

Round 8

C Vickery 3/26, H Fear 3/29, L Clarke 2/23

What a Day! What a game! Playing the top side was always going to be a test and measure of where we were at as a side…The lads were up for it and everyone performed to be the best of their ability with the ultimate team performance. We won the toss and sent Pennant Hills into Bat! Cooper Vickery bowled brilliantly in the “corridor” with some great line and length bowling snaring the first wicket of the day with a great caught and bowled and continued to take regular wickets throughout his spell finishing with 3/26 from his 8 which also included a “spectacularly insane” catch from Nixon Kolodzinski at short cover! We were quick to bring spin into the attack with Freddie striking almost immediately with another “Spectacularly insane” catch…this time from Harrison Fear!!In a spin partnership Harrison ripped his leggies with great control taking a superb 3/29. Lucas Clarke bowled a great spell at the death (2/23) restricting Pennant Hills to 9/140..The Run Chase….Again we started off too slow, however the bowling attack was very good. We were making it hard for ourselves with the score at 2/18 after 14…However the momentum changed just prior to drinks when Will Cunningham and Finn Sorohan saw off some great bowling and started making inroads into the total. The message at drinks was clear “Go!” we have wickets in the sheds and it was still only 4 an over required…A great 70 run partnership between Finn and Will set us up for the back part of the game… Fin Scoring (36) & Will a great half century 54 from 77. Some great gap hitting and running between the wickets! Well done boys.. Then a great little knock from Lucas Clarke (28n.o) helped us over the line in the last over with 4 balls to spare with what was a great 4 wicket win over the top team!!!“Catches win Matches” and today we took our catches! Lesson has been learnt!!Well done Chaps!
Round 3
Warringah
3/95
A Bennett 38, J Terry 36, W Davidson 10
Lindfield
98
J Terry 4/24, R Sheahan 3/13, L Molyneux 2/14
Warringah won by 7 wickets.
After a lot of rain the night before, a late start at Linfield was guaranteed. The wicket was covered in wet patches, so start was delayed and the match was reduced to a 40-40. Warringah won the toss and bowled hoping to make the most of what looked like a lively wicket. However, the first wicket took some time to fall after economic opening spells from Cal and Bourkey. Spin brought the wickets, with great spells from Regan (3-13) and Munro (1-24) in the middle. Followed by Jay cleaning up the tail taking 4-24 to bowl Linfield out for 98 off 35 overs.
Rain poured down again briefly in the break delaying the start and lessening the overs down to 35 meaning Warringah needed 92 to win. The chase was ruthless and Linfield were never given a chance, Jay (36) and Aidan (38 off 18) doing the damage with aggressive batting putting the opposition bowlers under pressure. The total was chased down in 14.2 overs ensuring the bonus point win and a crushing win.
Next match is Round 5
Warringah vs St Clair United
Sunday 8 December, 12.15pm at Weldon Oval.
Round 4

D Jeffs 37*, C Stolk 34*, R Trewartha 33
CCNSW Classics
9/168
G Park 3/20, S Waddington 2/29, G Allshop 1/10
Warringah won by 21 runs.
Our team of Rossco, Waddo, Neil, Dj, Stolky, Mike, Rick, Greg, Melch, Giles and Chris boasted 11 players who could open the innings , 2 medium seamers and 4 spinners. Cricketers club had 12 really good players available and a whopping 18 other really good players unavailable - such is their talent pool . These 18 players I think were ducking for cover to avoid our spin quartet on a pitch friendly to spin but also keeping low and seaming.
They bowled really well but were no match for Rossco, Dj ( a new bat ) and Chris Stolk who all banked. They were a good side but our aggressive batting succeeded on a difficult pitch. All our bowlers bowled superbly with David Jeffs welcoming back his great form of last year. Giles was right on the money, Greg was not giving anything away, Melch kept their best batsman at bay and Chris O’Brien delivered the last wickets of the day. Taming the last furious shots of their last big hitting batsmen. Chris took 2 catches, Neil got 1, Waddo a runout, Rick a stumping. Our bowling was smart , fielding was spirited and tactics were well honed which saved lots of runs.
The friendships and camaraderie in the team is excellent and a highlight for me. I delight in seeing each person applying their particular skill on the day helping to search for a good win and a fun day. Thanks for a great days cricket guys.
We play again next Sunday. Enjoy the week!
